Todd Pilger – 3D Visual Development Manager at Netflix

Angela Smaldone is a joy to work with. She’s talented, insightful and full of great ideas. She consistently delivers high quality sculpts and always adds that extra effort that pushes it to the next level. Her growth as an artist and team member has been amazing. She’s constantly pushing herself to achieve any goal she sets for herself.

Angy is a fantastic artist and collaborative team member. Any team she joins will be instantly upleveled. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Trevor Dalmer – Production designer at Netflix

Angela is a rare talent. She has the ability to translate a design into 3D, capturing the spirit of the drawing, while solving problems and injecting new appeal as it takes on its new form!

She does all that while somehow also being one of the kindest and most professional people I've ever worked with.

As I write this, while wanting others to see her value, greedily I'd love nothing more than to have her be an unknown secret weapon, always available, so that I could work with her on all my future projects!

Brittany Myers – Character designer at Netflix

Angy was a tremendous help on our character art team. I had the pleasure of working with her to further develop our characters and bring them to life from drawing to 3D.

She and I were able to bounce ideas off of each other as we continued to define what made each character unique in CG. It is always a delight to discover more about a character throughout the modeling process, and Angy was highly receptive to notes which made for a very collaborative and positive environment.

Angy was very highly professional, very organized, and an all around positive presence to our team. I would highly recommend Angy and look forward to working together in the future!

Iuri Lioi – Art director at Netflix

Angy was an important part of our art department, who helped us develop and bring many complex characters to life. She is a very talented artist, very committed to the project and to high standards of quality.

With an amazing positive attitude, Angy was a pleasure to work and collaborate with.

I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Ty Johnson and Mike Laubauch – modeling and rigging supervisors at Laika

“Angela comes highly recommended. Over the course of LAIKA`s fifth film I have genuine enjoy working with and getting to know Angela better. As her lead I found it comforting to have such a strong and versatile artists to lean on. Her positive attitude and professionalism quickly won the praise of the other leads. But what is most remarkable is the positive influence she has had on the other modelers in my team.”

Ty Johnson (Laika modeling supervisor)

“What a great modeler she is! A real joy to work with! Modelers that are patient and understanding of the technically needs of rigging, and still are able to keep a model on design, are a rarity. I found this to be very true of Angela. Not only was she very professional and accommodating. She always kept the essence of the character design intact, even while supporting the stringent technical requirements of the rapid prototyping(3D printing) process. I would highly recommend Angela, and hope to work with her again in the future!”

Mike Laubauch  (Laika rigging supervisor)

Chris Ayers – Character Designer, Visual Development Artist, Head “Zookeeper”

I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Angela on two occasions so far and she has done a wonderful job. She has a great eye for detail and managed to keep the “life” of the sketches in her sculpts, something that is not always easy to do. Beyond her obvious talent as an artist, Angela is just a pleasant person to work with and I look forward to having the opportunity to collaborate with her again.

Mark Osborne – director at Dreamworks Animation and Onyx Films

My name is Mark Osborne, I am the director of the upcoming feature animated film adaptation of `The little prince`. Previous to this project, I was the director of Dreamworks Animation`s Kung Fu Panda, as well as of a stop motion short film `More`, both of which earned me nominations for Academy awards. I have had the pleasure to work with Angela closely during the production of ` The little prince` here in Paris. She was a character modeler on the project, working very closely with the character design team.

Our character design were created by Peter de Seve and his work leaves lots to the imagination, so Angela was tasked with finding ways to stay true to the initial designs, while bringing them into three dimensions, which is no easy task. Angela was very proficient, easy to work with, responsive to notes and a very fast and efficient worker. She is a very talented artist and I was very happy to have her on the project. I would recommand her very much for your projects without hesitation. Please, contact me if you`d like more detail or information.

Sincerely yours,
Mark Osborne

Hidetaka Yosumi – head of character departement at Onyx Films

My name is Hidetaka Yosumi. I have been working in the animation industry for 16 years. My recent credits in feature films are “Wrecked It Ralph”, “Tangled” and “BOLT” from Walt Disney Animation Studios. I currently work on feature films “Le Petit Prince” and “Mune” for ONYX films/Norman Studios as Character Supervisor.

Without hesitation I would confirm Angela Smaldone as a  great asset in the animation industry. I noticed Angela’s work as soon as she joined the modeling team for “Mune” and I was astonished by her talent. As I was supervising the CG character development  of “Mune”, I was lucky to have Angela on my team. She has great eyes for anatomy, shapes and articulation from design to 3D sculpture. Her model data is always carefully considered in many perspectives for the production pipeline which makes everybody’s task easier to work with, in the downstream of the production pipeline. Every time I gave her some challenging tasks, she came back to me with extraordinary results within the schedule. She happened to work on almost all the main characters in “Mune” from digital maquette sculpts in Zbrush to retopologized assets in Maya.

When “Le Petit Prince” preproduction started, I insisted for having Angela in our team and as I expected, she produced amazing characters. Like many colleagues, I am always eagerly waiting to see Angela’s next character in 3D.

The quality and commercial success of the animation production will definitely benefit from Angela’s talent. I strongly provide my recommendation to any CG film project which needs a great asset in the production.

If I may be of further assistance for Angela, do not hesitate to contact me (hidetaka.yosumi[at]gmail.com).

Mike Defeo – ZBrush, 3D concept artist at Illumination Entertainement

My name is michael Defeo. I have been in the animation industry for over 20 years. 15 of those were at Blue sky studios as both head modeling and. Head of sculpting, creating the ice age series among many other films.
I have know angela for 4 years and I have always been impressed by her skills and hard work. I have the pleasure of working with her on The Lorax in Paris. I was very impressed with her work.

Since that time angela has taken the Scott Eaton anatomy course, a course that I took myself. It is a very demanding class were participants learn very precices information about human anatomy that will enhance any project that she will work on in the future.  Angela`s work after taking the class has become even more impressive especially in the area of anatomy and digital concept sculpting. You would be very fortunate to have her on your team.
She has a real eye for hitting shapes and putting very appealing life into characters.
If you have any questions please to not hesitate to call me.

Fabrice Joubert – director and animation supervisor at Illumination Entertainement

I have known Angela during the production of my short film, `French Roast`. She had already done some clay modeling for the company, Bibo Films, and I was very impressed by it. I have also seen her more recent CG works and since I have worked several times wih clay and CG modelers in my career, I can say that she has a real talent.

Angela has a very acute eye for 3D, as she understands very well how things should look when bringing characters to life. As well, her great sensitivity gives to her work a truly appealing and graphic style. Conscientious and hardworking, she is also a very nice person to collaborate with.
I know it`s rare to find people who have both the technical skills and the artistic sensitivity: Angela is one of those talents.
